ACLU Suing City Over Denial of March Permit

While the City of Philadelphia frequently hands out permits for block parties, parades, and other activities that block high-traffic roads, including during rush hour, the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign’s application for a permit to march down Broad St. on opening day of the Democratic National Convention was denied last month. On June 23, the ACLU announced that it will be suing the City in federal court for violating protesters’ First Amendment rights to free speech.
